Flights into Bali

Bali's Ngurah Rai International airport (DPS) is one of Indonesia's largest hubs, and you can fly from many airports within Indonesia as well as directly from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, as well as China, Japan, Australia and the Middle East.

Travelers coming from Europe can take flights with a stop in the Middle East or KL / Singapore.

Travelers coming from the USA can take flights with a stop in Hong Kong / Tokyo.

International Arrivals Into Bali Denpasar (DPS)
Citizens of 86 countries can enter Indonesia and buy a 30-day Visa on Arrival (VOA), this can be extended once for a further 30 days. Citizens of 10 ASEAN countries are eligible for the Visa Exemption, which grants you a 30 day stay (non extendable).  Foreign travellers from countries other than the 86 listed countries must first apply for a B211A Tourist Visa prior to entering Bali.

All visitors to Indonesia need at least 6 months passport validity.
For a list of the full requirements please visit Welcome Back To Bali

It is possible to apply online for your VOA up to 14 days in advance of your arrival here

Tourism Levy for International Arrivals Into Bali Denpasar (DPS)

Commencing February 14th 2024 international arrivals to Bali will be required to pay a one-time Rp 150,000 (approx US$10) fee.

Travellers are encouraged to conveniently settle this payment via the Love Bali website or App prior to their arrival.  Upon payment, a tourism levy voucher will be sent via email, and tourists should store it on their smartphones for scanning at checkpoints in bali Airport and sea ports.

Fast boat from Sanur

From Sanur beach there are several fast boat companies offering multiple transfer times every day between mainland Bali and Nusa Penida. The transfer takes 30-40 minutes. Boarding the boats in Sanur is via the new terminal building via Jalan Matahari Terbit.  There is a floating jetty on both the Sanur and Nusa Penida sides, so you do not need to wade into the water when boarding the boat.  Porters are available in Sanur and your luggage will be unloaded for you when you reach Nusa Penida.

If you're landing in Bali airport and want to take a boat over on the same day then you should aim for a flight landing by 2pm in Bali to allow for transfer time from the airport and Sanur.

The last fast boat departing Sanur leaves at 5 pm.

Our closest harbour on Nusa Penida is Dermaga Banjar Nyuh, which is a 5-10 minute walk or 2 minutes by car or scooter. The following boats arrive into here:

Please note that schedules can change without notice.  Please contact us for the most up to date schedules.

There are also fast boats departing Sanur which arrive into Sampalan harbour (Idola and Mola Mola Express). From Sampalan it's around 15 minutes drive to reach us (7km).

If you land in Bali later than 2pm then you can spend a night in Bali and travel over to the island the next morning. We recommend staying in Sanur to be nice and close to the boat for the next day.

If you choose to stay in other areas then allow for extra time to reach Sanur on the way to Nusa Penida

From Padang Bai

There is a car ferry leaving from Padang Bai, on Bali's south east coast. The ferry departs Padang Bai at intervals throughout the day and takes 60-90 minutes. It's cheapest way to reach the island and is a nice way to travel as the ferry has a passenger deck offering great views (cars and trucks bringing supplies to the island are below). Just leave plenty of time for the journey as the times are not set in stone!

The schedule changes through the year - Sometimes there's one departure per day, sometimes two! It's best to ask at the ticket office at the ferry terminal the night before, they can tell you what time the ferry is scheduled to leave and what time you can buy a ticket. Passenger tickets are Rp 31,000 per person.

The ferry goes in for service occasionally, so please check with us to find out if the ferry is running.

The ferry arrives into Sampalan harbour on Nusa Penida's North coast. Sampalan is around 10-15 minutes drive to Scuba Junkie Penida (7km).

There are also fast boats from Padang Bai to Nusa Penida, these leave from a different jetty to the ferry, just a few minutes along the beach.

From East Bali (Amed or Tulamben)

These popular diving areas on Bali's east coast are around 60-90 minutes from Padang Bai, so taking a boat from Padang Bai or Kusamba will be your shortest journey time.  Note that boats from Padang Bai and Kusamba arrive into Sampalan and Buyuk harbours which is around 10-15 minutes drive from the resort (7km).

From the Gili Islands (Lombok)

If you're staying in the Gili's then you can take Starfish Fast Cruise to Banjar Nyuh harbour on Nusa Penida.

Semaya One or D'Prabu fast boats also depart the Gili islands to Nusa Penida.  These boats depart Gili's and arrive into Buyuk harbour on Nusa Penida which is 10-15 minutes drive from the resort (7km).

Boats from the Gili islands will usually make a stop at Padang Bai first.

Or you can take a fast boat from the Gili's to Padang Bai and then take one of the methods above.

Check with us directly for up to date options.

From Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Ceningan

From Nusa Lembongan or Ceningan you can take a small speed boat from the yellow bridge between Lembongan and Ceningan (the boats leave from the Lembongan side of the bridge). The boat ride takes approx 10 minutes and costs approx Rp 60,000 per person.  Boats leave when there are enough people, you register at the ticket desk and the boat departs when full, there is no fixed schedule.  The boats run from early morning up to around 5pm.

Boats arrive into Toyapakeh beach on Nusa Penida which is a 10 minute walk or a 2 minute drive to the resort.

Scooter rental / transport is available in Toyapakeh.

From Scuba Junkie Komodo

Scuba Junkie Penida and Scuba Junkie Komodo make a perfect match for a combo dive trip as most flights to Labuan Bajo depart from Bali!

If you're diving in Komodo first and then coming over to Nusa Penida you'll most likely be taking a late morning or early afternoon flight from Labuan Bajo (LBJ).  You can reach Nusa Penida on the same day as you land so long as your flight lands by 2:30pm.  Once you land in Bali airport, the taxi to Sanur takes 30-40 minutes. (Click on the section above to see the departures from Sanur)

If you're diving Scuba Junkie Penida first and then heading over to Scuba Junkie Komodo (recommended to get the most number of diving days out of your trip), you can take one of the early morning boats from Banjar Nyuh, Nusa Penida, and the head straight to the airport for your flight to Labuan Bajo (LBJ). With the 7:20am boat from Nusa Penida you can take a late morning flight and make it to the Scuba Junkie Komodo resort on the same day. Here are the flight connections between Bali and Labuan Bajo

From Scuba Junkie Sangalaki

Scuba Junkie Penida and Scuba Junkie Sangalaki make an excellent combo dive trip! If you're leaving Scuba Junkie Sangalaki from Berau airport (BEJ) you can fly to Bali (DPS) with Lion & Wings Air and make it to Bali in one day.

Most of the time you will connect in Balikpapan and Java, but you can buy a ticket so that your baggage is checked through all the way to Bali, you just need to transit along the way.

Once you reach Bali you will be able to travel to Nusa Penida the next day, see the above From Sanur section for boat schedules.

Garuda Airlines (20 kg luggage allowance)

Wings / Lion Air (10/20 kg luggage allowance)

The flights land in Bali in the evening, so when you land you can take a taxi to Sanur, stay the night and then take a fast boat over the next morning.

There are no direct flights from Tarakan (TRK) to Bali (DPS), but you can transit in Jakarta and continue on to Bali.
