Choose Scuba Junkie IDC

why choose scuba junkie FOR YOUR IDC?

Aside from Nusa Penida being an amazing, picturesque island with incredible diving, you will find a dedicated Course Director in Jason who fully supports Scuba Junkie's focus on safety and quality training.

The rest of the SJP team is friendly, supportive, ready to assist you with logistics and visa advice before and during your course.

Within our IDC you will get lots of extras, above and beyond the standard curriculum as well as amazing discounts for fun diving with Scuba Junkie after your course.

We also take great care of our environment through the Green Fins program and our conservation arm, Scuba Junkie SEAS. We aim to make our impact on the environment as low as possible, and we will share his knowledge with you during your course.
With our exciting internship opportunity, you will learn a lot about real-world teaching as you shadow our experienced instructors on a range of PADI courses.  Penida has a wide range of variables which must be considered to make the teaching safe as well as fun - Tides, wind and swell play an important part in us choosing where we will be diving and we will share this knowledge with you.

WHICH PADI INSTRUCTOR LEVEL IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor) - As an OWSI you'll be qualified to teach from Discover Scuba Diver through to Divemaster, essentially, all of PADI's core course levels. Upon successful completion of your IDC and the Instructor Examination (IE), you will be ready to go as an OWSI!
Specialty Instructor - This level allows you to teach your chosen PADI Specialty courses in addition to the core levels above, and ultimately will make you a more employable instructor.
MSDT (Master Scuba Diver Trainer) - An MSDT teaches 5 PADI Specialties and has certified at least 25 students. You can start on your path to MSDT with the addition of MSDT Prep after your IE - This will give you five Specialty Instructor ratings. Then, once you have issued 25 certifications, you can apply for this rating.
IDCS (IDC Staff Instructor) - As an MSDT who is ready to take the next step in your dive career, you can take the IDC Staff Instructor Course, which will allow you to assist on IDC's with a Course Director.  You'll learn how to grade an IDC candidate's presentations, taking your mentorship to the next level.

THE IE - INSTRUCTOR EXAMINATION

The IE is conducted by impartial PADI Examiners and takes place over 2 days.
The schedule for the IE's is determined by PADI, and we set our IDC dates from this.

During the IE you will be assessed on academic, confined water and open water presentations, rescue skills, skills demonstrations plus you will sit dive theory and PADI standards exams.

Sometimes the IE takes place on Nusa Penida, sometimes on Nusa Lembongan.  When the IE is on Nusa Lembongan, the boat, transport and accommodation are covered with your course fees to us.

equipment

Working as an instructor most places of work will require you to have your own full set of equipment. However we realise that dive gear is bulky and heavy to travel with, so if you need to use our equipment, you can.

You must have your own personal set of the following items:
-Compass
-Dive Computer
-SMB & REEL (inflatable signalling device)
-Whistle (or other sound signalling device)
-Dive Knife / Cutting tool
